MY TARGET STUDENTS, WORK ON THE FOLLOWING: 1. Reading - 1) try to read at least 20 minutes towards your 200 Book Club Goal and your Six Flags Read to Succeed Goal; 2) In your Reading Journal (include today's date - 4/21/2020), tell me about a part that you can really make a connection with AND why in at least 3-5 complete sentences. Make sure to reread your sentences to make sure they make sense and that you used capital letters and correct punctuation. 2. Go to MackinVia and click on BookFlix; 1) find a pair of books you would like to read that are different from last 3 sets you have read; 2) look on the left side and start at the top - Watch a story, and then Read the book; 3) complete the 3 activities under "Puzzlers" (Word Match, Fact or Fiction, Which Comes First); 4) choose 2 activities to do under "Dive Deeper"; 5) read "Meet the Creators." 3. Math - 1) Practice your addition and subtraction facts 0-20 using Flash Cards, Fact Dash under Links in my blog, Fact Fluency (MobyMax), or Hit the Button - Number Bonds (Up to 10 and Up to 20) under Links in my blog; 2) Go to abcya.com under Links in my blog and play 2/3 games to review and strengthen your math skills. 4. Writing - start writing a letter to this week's pen pal. Reread each sentence to make sure it makes sense and that you used capital letters and correct punctuation. 5. Work on any assignments that you didn't complete from yesterday. 6. Moby Max - work on completing lessons to review and extend concepts learned this year. 7. HERE'S TODAY'S SCHEDULE: 1. Reading - We will be starting our Charlotte's Web unit today. You will be reading 2 chapters every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday so we can finish the book by the end of the school year. I will be sending you vocabulary lists (as attachments in emails) as well as Reading Responses (as attachments in emails) to complete after each chapter in your Reading Journal. Please glue each vocabulary list in your journal and if you want you can glue the Reading Responses too. During our Monday and Wednesday Zoom Meetings, I will read 1 chapter to you as you follow along. That 2nd chapter, you will need to read with a parent, sibling, or another family member. If you have any questions, please write them down, and you can ask me during our Zoom Meeting this morning. 2. Scholastic Magazine - This week's issue is: "Beach of Glass." 1) Watch the video for this issue; 2) Go over the vocabulary slides; 3) Read this week's issue out loud just like we do in the classroom each week; 4) Read the back of the magazine and answer the questions. 3. Social Studies - This week we are starting our unit on Jimmy Carter. 1) Login to MackinVIA and scroll down to "Pebble Go - Biographies." 2) Click on Pebble Go and in the search bar type Jimmy Carter. 3) Click on Jimmy Carter. 4) Click on each tab at the top and read the information in all 5 tabs on Jimmy Carter 2 times each. 5) Watch the video (at bottom of screen). 6) Look at the timeline of the important events in Jimmy Carter's life (at bottom of screen). 7) In your Reading Journal (write today's date: 4/20/20) write down 3 facts that you learned about Jimmy Carter from reading the Pebble Go. 7. Math - This week's focus is Recognize/Draw Shapes. 1) Practice your addition and subtraction facts 0-20 (flashcards or Fact Dash); 2) Practice telling time throughout the day using an analog clock; 3) Practice adding and subtracting different amounts of money (coins and dollars); 4) Review the Shapes Vocabulary Page (I sent as an attachment in Monday morning's email); 5) Create a Cootie Catcher (Fortune Teller) using the following 8 vocabulary words on your Shapes Vocabulary Page: 1. quadrilateral, 2. parallelogram, 3. parallel, 4. angle, 5. trapezoid, 6. pentagon, 7. hexagon, and 8. circle. 6) Draw a circle, square, rectangle, and triangle on the OUTSIDE flaps of your catcher instead of making the colored dots like the girl did in the video. 7) On the flaps that the girl drew the numbers 1-8 on, you need to write the definition of each of the vocabulary words I gave you in step #5 above. 8) On the very inside flaps - under each of the definitions, you need to write the vocabulary word that matches that definition OR you can draw the example (picture) that matches the definition you wrote. Make sure you use your Shapes Vocabulary Page as a resource when you are making your Cootie Catcher (Fortune Teller).
