This week we ended our 3 digit place value unit with a fun STEM challenge! Students were asked to create free standing structures with 100’s (graham crackers), tens (pretzel rods), and ones (marshmallows) with the greatest possible value. We worked together in groups using the 4 C’s and the STEM Engineering Design Process. Check out Tritt's Twitter Page.......I uploaded some pictures of the class during our STEM challenge today. Next Wednesday, August 30th is early release (12:30). Please send in a hand written note (no emails please) letting me know if your child will have a change in transportation this day. This Week’s Learning Standards: Math- Place value (100’s, 10’s and 1’s) and skip counting Reading/ELA- Questioning while reading, retelling, review of schema, adjectives, verbs, and long vs. short vowel sounds. Writing- Narrative (small moments) Social Studies/Science- Matter (solids, liquids, & gases) STEM- Marshmallow Place Value Challenge Next Week’s Learning Standards: Math- Addition & subtraction within 20 strategies Reading/ELA- Story problems/solutions, morals, & lessons, irregular plural nouns. Writing- Descriptive poems Social Studies/Science- Matter changes; solids (melt), liquids (freeze), & gases (burn). STEM- Stuck Like Glue STEM Challenge
